the not-so-sunny side of pregnancy

In my blogging adventures, I have heard that some people don't like to read blogs because they read too much like one long Christmas letter. I absolutely LOVE Christmas letters, so I am not seeing the problem, but anyway... Blogs are bad when their authors only publish posts on good days; e.g. my husband is PERFECT! My baby is always clean and CUTE! I love my job! I love my house! I love my life! What more could I possibly want than my perfect life?!

Well, in the interest of keeping it real, I would like to post a complaint. People keep telling Chris and me that "we should sleep now while we can." Well, I resent this comment as I have not slept all the way through the night in at least four months. What really gets me is when women, many of whom have had babies, make this comment. Do these women not remember what it is like to attempt sleep at the end of pregnancy? I have a 7+ pound baby sitting on my bladder. Last night I got up at least 5 times to use the restroom, and if I am not getting up, it hurts to just BE in bed. Every time I try to turn or even move, it is like being stabbed with a knife in the lower abdomen. Do these problems sound conducive to good sleep?! Chris has it a little better than I do, but remember that he has a wife who is moaning and groaning and getting up all night long.

So, I prefer to think of this time as preparation for getting up at night with the baby. Clearly, neither of us are catching up on sleep right now. Thank you for reading and carry on.

for the record

Just in case I go into labor today, I would like to state for the record that both Chris and I think this baby is a girl. We're not sure, but if it's a boy, we'll be surprised. I wanted our predictions to be known. Let's see how right on our parental instincts are!

baby watch

Just a quickie update if anyone is interested. I spent last Wednesday in labor and delivery for almost 4 hours being monitored after my blood pressure rose suddenly. After some tests, I am supposed to be "taking it easy" but am not on bedrest. Thank goodness because I am not the bedresting sort! Dr. C. is talking induction maybe this week or next if my blood pressure goes up again. There is a healthy, full-term baby in this belly, so it could be any day! Send some easy labor vibes my way!

The nursery is done and looks fabulous. I'll try to put some pictures on tomorrow. That is, if I'm not in labor.
