because we are raising future adults
Raising a baby is so easy: let them nurse when they want for as long as the want, hold them when they want to be held, change them when they're dirty. It's easy because they are all about love.
Toddlers are so much harder! I can't even imagine the amount of gray area that is going to exist by the time we have teenagers. Three year olds are honest to a fault. I am trying to teach Annie to talk kindly and gently and to, um edit herself. I told her that, if she doesn't like someone, she can think it in her head but she should not say anything. Then, she should think of something she likes about that person.
So story today:
Annie: "Wesley told me he didn't like me either."
Me: "Oh, did you tell Wesley that you didn't like him?"
Annie: "No, I just thought it in my head. Then I thought about how I liked his short hair."
Me: "That is great! Thanks for being a nice girl!"
Annie: "What do you think Wesley likes about me?"
I want her to live in a world where that is how people think.
